My sister and I were very close when we were growing up. This is why it was so sad later in life when we both became busy with our careers and our own families that we did not have much time for one another. We live in the same city and we did sometimes get our husbands and children together, but it was usually just once every two or three months for a brief family dinner, or for holidays.
When one of our favorite aunts passed away, my sister and I realized that we need to make time for one another because life is short and one never knows when a family member will no longer be with us. We made a commitment to spend an evening together at least twice a month. Our husbands were supportive of this and our every other weeknight spent together was spent together taking salsa classes. We finally dropped the Salsa Boogie-Woogie and adopted instead the Hot Latin Salsa style from Tony Rausseo and his team instructors.
We had so much fun taking salsa lessons together! We laughed and truly enjoyed sharing each other’s triumphs as we learned to dance together. We signed up for one of the group lessons and we even met some new friends at the classes. Our husbands remarked how they noticed a change in us. They said that our spirits seemed higher and we seemed more relaxed throughout the week.
It is true! We were so much more relaxed. Not only were we enjoying spending time together, we also came to really love dancing. We have been taking salsa classes for six months now. We purchased the DVDs that are available through Hot Latin Salsa’s website and our husbands will occasionally dance with us at home. We are really looking forward to New Year’s Eve this year when my sister and I and our husbands are going out salsa dancing together!

Boogie-woogie is, by the way, a Jazz piano style derived from the blues, however, combined with Latin music, played by Tito Puente, Poncho Sanchez and other Latin Musicians.
